This time of year is so very busy at GMS!
In December our class met its goal of 73% homework completion. Turning in homework has been a challenge for may students this year. As an incentive, we are working as a community to get as much homework turned in as we can.
In January and February we did not meet the class goal of 76%. We are working towards that same goal for March. If we meet the goal we will have a reward celebration!
Here are some items we could use in our classroom:
Sanitizing wipes (for desks and tables)
Hand sanitizer
tissues
paper towels
healthy snacks (pretzles, goldfish, animal crackers...)
Dear 5th graders and families,
There are so many interesting and exciting things happening in our classroom. In math we are learning about:
*order of operations (PEMDAS)
*exponents
*prime factorization
*greatest common factor (GCF)
*least common multiple (LCM)
The students have been doing incredibly well with these new concepts. Soon we will begin our study of fractions. My hope is that the work we are doing now and the work that we did with decimals earlier this year will make fractions easier!
In Science we ended our unit on animal adaptations by building birds. Each student made a bird from recycled materials. They are really quite amazing! I am hoping to get some pictures posted here soon.
A word about snack... The school provides and afternoon snack through the Extended Learning Time grant. Most students are hungry in the morning so we have been having a snack then as well. Students need to bring in their own snacks for thr morning. I have provided pretzels and animal crackers for students who are hungry but don't have a snack.
